2024 Calgardup Vineyard Cabernet Franc

2024 Calgardup Vineyard Cabernet Franc
Is two in a row a trend? If so, then Cabernet Franc may have defied our own stubborn devotion to producing just a single wine from our Calgardup vineyard and laid claim to an ongoing role in our range of wines. It just tastes great, and we work hard to make it so. We hope you enjoy the wine!
From less than 1000 north-east facing vines, tucked away in the most sheltered part of the vineyard. The yields were again dismally low, with only 913 kg harvested but the fruit had real personality and depth which is reflected in the wine. Harvested by hand in late February, the fruit was then destemmed, individually berry sorted and naturally fermented in two French oak demi muids. Maturation followed in a single seasoned puncheon for 10 months.
This wine is a little bit serious while celebrating the vibrancy and perfume of Cabernet Franc. Beautifully bright and engaging with aromas of violets, all spice, cassis, cola and sweet paprika. The palate is medium bodied, juicy and fleshy with cool resolute tannins. The wine builds with a pithy pomegranate acid line and a silky fine finish.
